Friday, November 21st, 7pm
Reservations Must Be Made by November 13th.
The hunger banquet is a dinner designed to increase awareness of world hunger by giving participants a unique perspective on the distribution of the world’s food. The event will be modeled after the Oxfam America Hunger Banquet® program. Participants will be divided into three groups at random proportionate to the distribution of the world’s upper, middle, and lower incomes, and provided a meal that corresponds to their assigned income bracket. The upper-income bracket will be served a typical American restaurant meal. The middle-income bracket will be served a simple meal of rice and beans with the option to purchase a Freeze Peach drink. The remaining participants will be in the lower-income bracket. They will be served a small bowl of rice and a glass of water for dinner. We are limited to 30 people for the dinner. To help us prepare, we need to know that you are coming by Thursday, November 13. The cost of the dinner will be $15. Please purchase your ticket on PayPal. Your fee will be donated to the St. Margaret Mary food pantry in Astoria.
The hunger banquet is the first part of a two-part evening. Please plan to stay for a Theology on Tap event the focus will be on service opportunities in the Astoria area immediately following the dinner. The organizations that will be featured are local, one of which is Bridge to Life, a non-judgmental, non-sectarian, and apolitical organization dedicated to offering counseling as well as furniture and clothing for their babies.
